Hi. My dog just ate 1/3 of an empty birth control packet. It is plastic / metal. Is this an emergency?

Ingesting plastic and metal can pose serious risks to dogs, as these materials may cause blockages or tears in their gastrointestinal tract. Since your dog has consumed part of a birth control packet, it's essential to treat this as an emergency.

First and foremost, contact your veterinarian immediately. Explain the situation in detail and follow their guidance. They might suggest bringing your dog in for an examination and possibly imaging, such as X-rays, to check for any blockages or damage.

While waiting for veterinary advice, closely monitor your dog for any signs of distress. Symptoms to watch for include vomiting, lack of appetite, lethargy, abdominal pain, or changes in bowel movements. These could indicate a blockage or internal injury.

It's important not to induce vomiting unless your veterinarian specifically instructs you to do so, as this could potentially cause more harm.

Given the potential severity of ingesting plastic and metal, seeking prompt veterinary care is crucial to ensure your dog receives the necessary treatment.

If you have any further questions, please feel free to ask. Thank you.
