My dog was bitten by another dog 2 days ago. The spot looks red and has some drainage. He’s acting fine other than wanting to lick it. I’ve put a cone on him to try and help prevent. We’re currently out of state in Arizona, we’re from a Tennessee and his vet is there. He’s very anxious and has to be tranquilized to go to the vet he knows. I just need to know what to do will it be ok with home care

I'm sorry to hear about your dog's situation. Dog bites can sometimes lead to infections, so it's important to monitor the wound closely. Let me guide you through some steps you can take for home care.
Firstly, gently clean the wound with mild soap and water. You can also use a saline solution to rinse it, but avoid using hydrogen peroxide or alcohol, as these can irritate the tissue. It's great that you've already put a cone on him to prevent licking, as this can introduce bacteria and delay the healing process.
Keep a close eye on the wound for any signs of infection, such as increased redness, swelling, warmth, or pus. If you notice any of these symptoms, it would be wise to seek veterinary care. Additionally, if you have a pet-safe antibiotic ointment, applying a thin layer to the wound can help prevent infection.
Since your dog is feeling anxious, try to keep him in a calm environment to reduce stress, which can aid in his healing. If the wound doesn't improve or if you notice any signs of infection, it would be best to consult a local veterinarian, even if it means finding one in Arizona. They can provide appropriate care and medication if needed.
If you have any further questions, please feel free to ask. Thank you.
