Stormi has had a runny nose for about two weeks now. I was not concerned as it was mild and clear water-like fluid. She has absolutely no other symptoms besides the runny nose. Initially, I was not concerned but as it is lasting longer I’m wondering if I should be concerned. Our vet is very expensive and was wondering if I need to take her in or not. Again, she has clear water like fluid coming out of both nostrils intermittently for two weeks with no other symptoms. She also seems to be breathing fine. Thank you.
It sounds like Stormi's runny nose could be due to a variety of factors, including allergies, irritants, or mild infections. Given that her nasal discharge is clear and she isn't showing any other symptoms, it's less likely to be a serious infection or illness. Here are a few things to consider:
First, dogs can have allergies to pollen, dust, or other environmental factors. If you notice that Stormi's runny nose coincides with certain times of the year or specific environments, allergies could be the culprit.
Second, exposure to irritants like smoke, strong perfumes, or cleaning products can also cause nasal discharge. It might be helpful to identify and eliminate any potential irritants in her environment.
Third, mild viral infections can sometimes cause a runny nose that resolves on its own. Although this is less likely given her lack of other symptoms, it's still a possibility.
Additionally, foreign objects such as a small piece of grass or dirt can occasionally get lodged in a dog's nasal passage, causing irritation and discharge.
Since Stormi's runny nose has persisted for two weeks, it's important to monitor her closely for any changes. If the discharge changes color to yellow or green, if she starts showing other symptoms like coughing, sneezing, or lethargy, or if her condition worsens, it would be best to consult a veterinarian.
In the meantime, ensure she stays hydrated and comfortable. Using a humidifier in your home to keep the air moist might also help with her nasal discharge.
If you have any further questions, please feel free to ask. Thank you.
