So Benji is not vaccinated yet and we have other dogs who are. So one of my other dogs had got sick and must've passed it to him and the symptoms were the same. No appetite. Mucous diarrhea. Minimum drinking water. Weight loss. No activity.
It sounds like Benji is going through a tough time with these symptoms, especially considering his young age and the fact that he hasn't been vaccinated yet. Diarrhea with mucus, along with a loss of appetite, weight loss, and lethargy, can indeed indicate a gastrointestinal infection or another underlying issue. Since another dog in your household has shown similar symptoms, it's quite possible that Benji has contracted the same illness.
Here are a few steps you can take at home to help him:
First, it's crucial to keep Benji hydrated. Offer him small amounts of water frequently, and you might also consider giving him an electrolyte solution specifically designed for pets to help maintain his hydration levels.
Next, you might want to withhold food for 12 to 24 hours. This can give his digestive system a chance to rest. After this period, you can gradually introduce a bland diet, such as boiled chicken and rice, in small, frequent meals.
Keep a close eye on his symptoms. If you notice any worsening, such as blood in his stool, increased lethargy, or if he continues to refuse food and water, it would be wise to seek veterinary care promptly.
Additionally, it's important to keep Benji isolated from your other dogs to prevent the potential spread of any infectious disease.
Given that Benji is a young puppy and hasn't been vaccinated, he is more susceptible to infections like parvovirus, which can be quite serious. If his symptoms persist or worsen, I strongly recommend consulting a veterinarian as soon as possible to ensure he receives the appropriate care.
