We rescued this cat from outside. He has not had any health issues he’s been neutered for sure. He does have a little bit of an agitation issue at times he’s slightly overweight, but he has had this big scab on his neck the whole time, and now he itched it off, and it kind a looks like a hole, what can we do for this at home? We have medication‘s from other pets, so if we could use any of those instead of bringing him to the vet as I am short on funds, it would be great.

It sounds like your cat is dealing with a persistent wound on his neck that has unfortunately worsened into an open sore. This is a fairly common issue, particularly for cats that spend time outdoors, as they can easily get injured or develop infections from other animals or environmental factors.
For home care, you can begin by gently cleaning the wound. Use a saline solution or a mild antiseptic solution for this purpose, but steer clear of hydrogen peroxide or alcohol, as these can be too harsh and may delay healing. After cleaning, you can apply a thin layer of an over-the-counter antibiotic ointment, such as Neosporin. Just be sure to monitor your cat to prevent him from licking it off.
You mentioned having medications from other pets, so it's crucial to be cautious. Avoid using any medications that aren't specifically prescribed for your cat, especially oral antibiotics or steroids, as they could potentially cause harm if not used correctly.
Keep a close watch on the wound for any signs of infection, like increased redness, swelling, or discharge. If you don't see improvement in a few days, or if the condition worsens, it would be wise to consult a veterinarian. They can offer more targeted treatment and check for any underlying issues that might be contributing to the problem.
In the meantime, try to prevent your cat from scratching the area further. You might consider using an Elizabethan collar, commonly known as a cone, to stop him from reaching the wound.

Can I use mupirocin 2% for a antibiotic ointment

Mupirocin 2% is a useful antibiotic ointment for treating bacterial skin infections in pets, including cats. It can be particularly effective for certain wounds and infections. However, it's crucial to use it with care, ensuring that the wound isn't infected with bacteria that might require a different treatment.
Before applying mupirocin, make sure the wound is thoroughly cleaned. Apply a thin layer of the ointment to the affected area, and keep a close eye on your cat to prevent them from licking it off, as ingesting the ointment could cause gastrointestinal upset.
Thank you so much for all your advice 😊
