She was roughhousing yesterday and went down the stairs very fast and hard and hurt her front ankle/wrist area. We checked everything initially and after the initial pain she didn't seem to react to any poking or prodding but still wouldn't put any weight on it. After we poked for awhile we got a very small reaction to the wrist area which is what we have assumed got hurt (there was a very small amount of swelling in the area also) we've also taken her leg/shoulder/paw area through all ranges of motions and nothing seems to be bothering her there. For now we've just wrapped the area we believe to be causing the pain in hopes of some stability. Is there anything else we should do? Do you think it's muscle/tendon related or possibly a stress fracture?

As I was going to take this picture I noticed her paw was more swollen than I last saw. I took off the bandage but it was originally placed right where you see the swelling start.

I'm sorry to hear about your dog's injury. It sounds like she might be experiencing a sprain, strain, or possibly even a minor fracture. Here are some steps you can take to help her:

Firstly, it's important to keep her as calm and inactive as possible to prevent any further injury. Try to limit her movement, and avoid letting her use stairs or jump around. Applying a cold compress or an ice pack wrapped in a cloth to the swollen area can also be beneficial. Do this for about 10-15 minutes every few hours to help reduce the swelling.

Keep a close eye on the swelling. If it continues to increase or doesn't show signs of improvement, it may require further evaluation. When it comes to managing her pain, please avoid giving her any human pain medications unless they have been specifically prescribed by a veterinarian, as these can be harmful to dogs.

If the swelling persists or she continues to avoid putting weight on the injured area, I recommend scheduling a visit to the vet. They can perform an X-ray to rule out any fractures and provide the appropriate treatment.

If you have any more questions or need further assistance, please feel free to ask. Thank you.
