A lotion from Walgreens ivermectin %0.5 was applied to my dog and not rinsed off. Until the first sign presented. Unable to stand. pupils are dilated. I rinsed him and administered activated charcoal. Dog was licking the lotion off also. From time of application to removal and charcoal was approximately 10 hours. I have been forcing him to take water and even gave more charcoal with food which he ate with no problem. My question is if I keep him hydrated and fed will he eventually get better. No health problems or heart worms. He has got up to pee and urine is like normal.

Ivermectin toxicity is indeed a serious concern, particularly in dogs, and the symptoms you're observing, like the inability to stand and dilated pupils, are quite alarming. Ivermectin can significantly impact the nervous system, and these symptoms suggest that the toxicity level is quite severe.

You've already taken some crucial initial steps by rinsing your dog and administering activated charcoal, which can help absorb some of the toxin. However, given the time that has passed since exposure and the severity of the symptoms, it's vital to seek immediate veterinary care. The symptoms you're describing indicate that your dog's nervous system is affected, and this situation requires professional intervention.

While keeping your dog hydrated and fed is important, it may not be enough to counteract the toxicity. A veterinarian can provide essential supportive care, such as administering intravenous fluids and medications to manage symptoms and prevent further complications. They will also be able to closely monitor your dog's condition and provide any specific treatments that might be necessary.

I strongly urge you to take your dog to a veterinarian or an emergency animal hospital right away. The sooner your dog receives professional care, the better the chances for recovery. If you have any further questions or need more assistance, please feel free to ask. Thank you.

I have no money. Is there anything I could feed him to help detox him? Is this painful?

I'm truly sorry to hear about your situation.

Unfortunately, there are no specific foods that can detoxify ivermectin. Give him plenty of water and keep an eye on his symptoms.

Regarding pain, the symptoms of ivermectin toxicity, such as muscle tremors or seizures, can be uncomfortable and distressing for your dog.

In situations where finances are a concern, consider reaching out to local animal shelters, rescue organizations, or veterinary schools, as they may offer low-cost or emergency assistance. Some veterinarians may also offer payment plans or know of resources that can help.
