Hello. Nela will be having a dental procedure were extraction and cleaning will be needed amd she will have to be umder full anesthetic. I was wonder if the vet for this procedure would give nela a mild anesthetic where she would keep still and comfortable but she wouldn't be fully unconscious? Also if I'd ask the vet to keep her under mild anesthetic because I want to minimise the risks would they do that? Do vets normally use a mild anesthetic for cats undergoing dental procedures?

Thank you.

Hello! It's wonderful to see your proactive approach regarding Nela's dental procedure. When it comes to dental work that involves extractions and cleaning, veterinarians typically use general anesthesia. This approach is essential because it ensures that your cat remains completely still and pain-free during the procedure, which is vital for both her safety and the effectiveness of the treatment.

While the idea of using a mild anesthetic might seem like a safer option, it wouldn't be adequate for a procedure that requires complete stillness and pain relief. General anesthesia allows the veterinarian to perform the necessary work without causing any stress or discomfort to Nela.

Rest assured, veterinarians take anesthesia very seriously. They will thoroughly assess Nela's health to determine the safest anesthetic protocol for her and will monitor her closely throughout the procedure to ensure her safety. If you have any concerns, I encourage you to discuss them with your vet. They can provide detailed information about the specific anesthetic plan for Nela and address any questions you might have.

Please feel free to reach out if you have any more questions. Thank you!
